The Minnesota Council on the Teaching of Languages and Cultures, MCTLC, was founded in 1961.

Our mission is to advance the teaching of languages and cultures in Minnesota.

Since its inception, our organisation, which has been dedicated to supporting language and culture educators across the state,

has been characterized by a spirit of activism and cooperation.

Our Board consists entirely of volunteers who teach at all levels of the Minnesota education system

-- from elementary education though higher ed.

Membership and Affiliation

Any Minnesota language and culture educator can become a member of MCTLC. One can become a member, or renew their membership, by making a membership payment to the MCTLC Treasurer, or by registering for MCTLC's Annual Conference. Conference registration includes a one-year MCTLC membership that starts from the day of payment.

MCTLC is the Minnesota affiliate of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

MCTLC is also a member of the Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (CSCTFL)

as well as the Joint National Committee for Languages (JNCL).

Finally, MCTLC partners with the World Languages Education Specialist at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).
