COMPREHENSIBLE CULTURE:

TAKE-HOME TIPS FOR YOUR LANGUAGE

CLASSROOM

Teaching Workshop

For K–12 and College and University

World Language and Culture Instructors

Sponsored by AATSP-MN and MCTLC

Presented by Amy Roe

Amy Roe is an elementary Spanish teacher at Breck School. She has been teaching with Comprehensible Input for ten years. She holds an MA in Linguistics, a BA in Spanish, and a BAA in Teaching Spanish. She has taught elementary, middle, and high school. She also spent one semester teaching in the linguistics department of a university in Lima. She spent a year living and working in Peru, studied abroad for a semester in Venezuela, spent a summer in Panama, and completed an internship in Mexico. She is passionate about finding ways to incorporate culture into her curriculum.

Participants will learn a variety of ways to teach culture through Comprehensible Input (CI). An overview of CI strategies will be presented. Participants will take-home tips on how to develop activities for students to learn about cultures through platforms like MovieTalk and PictureTalk. Learn how to incorporate practical and fun activities in your language courses, such as simple news stories, virtual field trips, and pop-up culture. The workshop is in English with examples in Spanish and German. Join us for this great opportunity!
